CODES, 2023
This work uses oak gall ink and the galls themselves to tell the dichotomous story of LBJ’s time split between Washington DC and his ranch in Stonewall, Texas. The ZIP codes of Washington DC wrap around the trunk like bark, while the Texas ZIP codes encompassing Johnson City and Stonewall appear on the heart of the log. The piece was donated and auctioned as part of the Cabinet Oak Project, in which selected artists created art from a fallen live oak tree at LBJ’s Texas ranch.
